High-Roost¶
Region¶
Description¶
A Duralith stronghold carved into the cliff face high in the Shattered Highlands, accessible only by a series of narrow goat paths that would kill anything without hooves or stone legs. The wind at High-Roost never stops. It howls through the carved halls, rattles the trade-posts, and strips the warmth from anyone foolish enough to stand still. The Duraliths do not seem to notice. They are made of sterner things.
High-Roost serves as a neutral trading post where the Duraliths exchange rare gemstones, unrefined Erythium, and stone-worked goods for food, timber, and supplies from the lowlands. Merchants who make the climb are treated fairly — the Duraliths respect anyone willing to risk the ascent. Those who try to cheat are thrown off the mountain. Not figuratively.
The Iron-Guilds maintain a presence here through a small Spark-Wright outpost that handles ore assessment and trade negotiations. But High-Roost belongs to the Duraliths, not the Guilds, and the distinction matters. This is where the elders gather to settle clan disputes and decide matters that Argent-Deep’s forges are too busy to address — questions of territory, mining rights in the deep veins, and what to do about the cracks.
The cracks are the problem. As the Covenant weakens, the Leylines that sustain Duralith bodies are growing erratic. The elders at High-Roost have noticed their stone skin splitting along new fault lines, healing slower than it used to. They do not speak of this to outsiders. But the councils have grown more frequent, and the mood on the mountain has shifted from stoic patience to something harder.
Key Features¶
- The Elder Circle: An open-air amphitheater carved into the cliff face where Duralith clan leaders convene to settle disputes and debate mining rights.
- The Wind Market: A trading post on the highest accessible ledge where lowland merchants exchange food and timber for Duralith gemstones and ore.
- The Spark-Wright Outpost: A small Iron-Guilds station handling ore assessment, staffed by Tharun artificers who have learned to tolerate the altitude.
Role¶
A Duralith meeting ground and trading post in the peaks. Remote, wind-battered, and increasingly worried about what the weakening Covenant means for a people made of living stone.
