The Iron-Guilds¶
“Gold bleeds. Iron endures.”
Type: Technocratic Oligarchy / Trade Union
Guild-Master: Fenrik Ashvane (political leadership)
High-Artificer: Thorum Stoneshaper (operational leadership)
Headquarters: Ironridge
Primary Races: Tharuns (Artificers), Duralith
Overview¶
The Iron-Guilds are the industrial backbone of Kaelara. While the Empire of Eldara claims to rule the world, the Iron-Guilds know the truth: The Empire floats because we built the engines.
They control the mining, refining, and enchanting of Erythium. They are technically imperial subjects, but in practice, they operate as a sovereign state. If the Guilds strike, the Imperial Airships fall out of the sky.
The Three Pillars¶
1. The Deep-Miners (Duraliths)¶
Composed of Duraliths who can swim through solid rock. They locate the deepest, purest veins of Erythium that no machine can reach.
- Role: Extraction and brute force defense.
2. The Spark-Wrights (Tharun Artificers)¶
The engineers and smiths. Most are Tharuns who defected from the Empire’s strict academies or learned the trade in the smoky halls of Ironridge. They discovered the secret of “Void-Combustion,” an engine type that burns Erythium dust to produce anti-gravity lift.
- Role: Refining, manufacturing, and technological innovation.
3. The Ledger-Keepers (Tharuns)¶
The face of the Guild. They handle logistics, trade contracts with the Empire, and legal disputes.
- Role: Diplomacy and coin-counting.
Leverage: “The Drop”¶
The Guilds possess a secret protocol known as “The Drop.” It is a kill-switch built into every major piece of Imperial technology (including the floating districts of Valtharion). If the Empire ever attempts to invade Ironridge, the Guilds have threatened to turn off the engines.
Key Figures¶
- Guild-Master Fenrik Ashvane: The political head of the Iron-Guilds and chair of the Guild Council. Fenrik negotiated the Ironridge Compact and is widely considered the most powerful non-noble in Tavrenne. He sets policy, handles Imperial diplomacy, and controls the purse strings from Argent-Deep.
- High-Artificer Thorum Stoneshaper: The operational head — master of the forges, the mines, and the engines. A scarred Tharun veteran with a mechanical arm made of pure Erythium. Where Fenrik negotiates, Thorum builds. He answers to the Guild Council but runs the day-to-day machinery of production with absolute authority.
- Grand-Matron Olgra: A Duralith elder who remembers the time before the Guilds. She advocates for isolationism and sits on the Guild Council as the voice of the Deep-Miners.
Relations¶
- Empire of Eldara: Tense. The Empire needs them, but hates their independence.
- The Thousand-Petal Court: Neutral. The Guilds will sell weapons to the rebellion if the coin is good, provided it doesn’t destabilize their own mines.
