Creation Myths: Variations of Truth

History is written by the victors, but every culture remembers the beginning differently.

The Auriel Truth (The Imperial Orthodoxy)

As taught in the Sanctum of Solphirion.

  • The Beginning: The universe was Chaos (The Void).
  • The Ordering: The Seven Covenari (High Ones) descended and wove the Astral Veil to separate Order from Chaos.
  • The Betrayal: The Seven Severith (Adversaries) sought to tear the Veil and return the world to unbound entropy.
  • The Victory: Solphirion defeated Karnath-Magar, binding the Severith in the Void. The Mortal Plane was created as a “Garden of Order” protected by the Covenant.

The Duralith Telling (The Architect’s Log)

Preserved on iron tablets in the Deep-Halls.

  • The Beginning: The world was raw material, ruled by the Primordials (huge, elemental titans).
  • The Usurpation: The Covenari were not creators, but Invaders. They were powerful mages who killed the Primordials (who the Empire calls Severith) and used their corpses to build the world.
  • The Truth: The “Earth” is the bones of dead gods. Mining is not just industry; it is scavenging. The Duraliths respect the Covenari as master builders, but do not worship them as benevolent parents.

The Crisael Lament (The Song of Silence)

Whispered in the Crystal Ghettos.

  • The Beginning: The universe was a Song. Existence was fluid, changing, and free.
  • The Silencing: The Covenari imposed “Resonance” — a rigid structure. They froze the song into matter (The Veil) to control it.
  • The Tragedy: The “Chaos” the Empire fears was just Freedom. The Covenari are jailers who locked the universe into a static shape. The Crisaels seek to “Unbind” the song not to destroy the world, but to set it free again.

The Vaeryn Myth (The Frozen Breath)

  • The world was breathed into existence by the Great Wolf. The Covenari are just the “Pack Leaders” who keep the fire burning. The End Times will come when the fire goes out and the Long Winter reclaims all.
